Meijer, Inc, a family-owned superstore chain operating primarily in the Midwest, is one of the 20 largest privately owned companies in the United States, according to Forbes. Meijer operates approximately 200 stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. Originally started as a grocery, the company’s modern supercenter stores offer groceries as well as clothing, automotive, home decor, health and beauty, pharmacy, and electronics departments.
Meijer’s 700,000 square foot distribution facility in Tipp City, Ohio is near the center of its Midwestern footprint. Located on 178 acres of property near the Interstate 75, the facility enjoys easy access to the 70/75 interchange, which allows it to reach Meijer stores throughout the region.
In 2014 the company announced plans to construct a $100 million dairy facility onto its existing property. When complete, the facility will produce milk, juices, and other related products for Meijer stores. The 85,000 square foot addition will add 100 new jobs to the facility’s existing workforce of approximately 800 employees.
